Support workers for young man in Bristol F/T and P/T £11.11 -11.85/hour + unsocial rates - BRISTOL - BS6
Job Reference (518043cb)
We are looking for additional support workers to join the long-standing team of carers providing 24 hour support for our 28 year old son, who has epilepsy, cerebral palsy, profound learning difficulties and severe visual impairment. He is wheelchair-dependent and is tube-fed.
Based in the family home, he accesses activities within the community, including hydrotherapy, music therapy, physiotherapy and trips to accessible venues to complement activities provided at home by his team of carers.
Ideally, we are looking for people who can make a medium to long-term commitment, have a sense of humour, are kind, enthusiastic, professional and happy to work alone and as part of a team. As part of a team, it also really helps if you can work flexibly to cover other carers' holiday and sickness, where possible.
You will be expected to:
- Provide personal care.
- Administer regular and emergency medication.
- Facilitate social and sensory activities
- manage laundry/keep spaces clean and tidy.
Skills/Experience:
Ideally, we are looking for someone with prior experience of working one-to-one with people with learning disabilities and epilepsy, but we are happy to support and provide training for someone willing to develop these skills as a support worker
Requirements:
- Fluent written and spoken English.
- No pre-existing musculo-skeletal or back injuries (due to manual handling demands of the job) or personal health problems which would make it inappropriate to be solely responsible for a wholly dependent person.
Desirable:
- Flexibility in providing 24 hour care.
- Driver's licence.
- Experience in delivering physiotherapy, occupational therapy, sensory stimulation or using technology with children or adults with sensory needs.
- You will receive full, person-specific, training in delivering a physiotherapy programme, manual handling, administration of medications and oxygen therapy and tube-feeding.
The position is subject to a DBS, and satisfactory completion of initial training and a one month’s probationary period.
Holiday Entitlement: You will be entitled to 28 days paid holiday (including bank holidays) pro rata according to number of shifts worked.
Current positions available:
Position 1: Late/early weekday shifts (7.30 - 4 and 10.30 to 8pm) and one weekend a month - these could be part-time or full-time and could also be combined with night shifts on a rolling 4 week cycle
Position 2: Weekend hours: 2- 4 weekends a month (8-10 hours on both days)
Position 3: Weekday nights: Thursday to Saturday 7.30 pm to 7.30 am (these nights could be split)
11.11/hour starting salary - rising to £11.85 for carer with > 2 years experience. Unsocial hours paid at enhanced rates
Ad hoc additional hours to cover holidays/sickness
The salary is funded by CHC and hourly rate will reflect Agenda for change annual increases
