Job Purpose
 
To provide support to a young man with Autism and a learning disability.
          
Location: Loddon, NR14.
 
Details
 
I am looking for a Personal Assistant to support my 18-year old son with accessing social and recreational activities. This will include planning day trips and spending time with him in the community with the focus being to allow him to develop social and independence skills outside of the home as he approaches adult life.
 
If you are only able to provide support for part of the advertised hours, I would still encourage you to apply as this role would be considered on a job share basis.
 
Duties to include:
 
·      Identifying potential activities/facilities or events that my son might enjoy, and planning day trips.
·      Accompanying my son on trips out for the day, including providing transport.
·      Encouraging my son to engage in appropriate social and independence building tasks, e.g. paying for the bill.
·      Ensuring my son is kept safe whilst out in the community, e.g. appropriate safeguarding and road safety awareness.
·      Encouraging my son to develop independence and self-care skills at home, e.g. preparing healthy basic meals.
·      Support with personal care routines as required. 
·      Any other reasonable duties as required.
 
Person specification
 
Listed below are the skills, competencies and qualities that are essential and desirable for the post. My assessment of these, both on application and at interview, will be the main factor in determining if you are successful. Please refer to these when submitting your application.
 
·      Driving license holder with own vehicle and appropriate business insurance cover essential.
·      Willing to work occasional weekends and evenings essential.
·      Patient and compassionate approach towards others essential.
·      Willing to work in a home with a sweet natured dog.
·      Previous experience in a social care role desirable.
·      Previous experience supporting young adults with learning disabilities and/or Autism desirable.
 
Summary terms and conditions
 
·      The rate of pay for this position is £11 per hour 
·      You will be reimbursed for any agreed expenses incurred as part of the role                                             
·      Hours and times of work: 10 hours per week during term time (37 weeks per annum) and 15-20 hours per week during school holidays (15 weeks per annum). 670 hours to be used per annum. To be discussed further at interview.
 
 
The post is subject to the following
 
·      A satisfactory enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) check, the cost of which will be covered by the employer.
·      Satisfactory references from two referees, one of which must be your current or last employer.
·      Completion of a satisfactory probationary period of 3 months.
