We are looking for a kind, patient and reliable Support Worker to support a friendly 15-year-old young man with Subcortical Band Heterotopia, Epilepsy, Autism, and a Learning Disability.
This role focuses on providing social and leisure support, helping him to access activities he enjoys both at home and in the community, while promoting his independence, confidence, and wellbeing.
He has a wide range of interests, including gaming on the Xbox and Nintendo Switch, particularly Fortnite and Smash Bros. He also enjoys Mario board games, Marvel figures, dinosaurs, crazy golf and going out for drives, as the motion of the car can help him relax and regulate.
The young man benefits from routine, structure and clear communication. He can sometimes find it difficult to follow instructions, complete tasks and manage unexpected changes, so the successful applicant will need to be calm, understanding and encouraging, providing reassurance and support to help him engage in activities and enjoy positive experiences.
Duties will include:
- Supporting participation in social and leisure activities
- Accompanying him on community outings
- Encouraging independence and confidence
- Providing reassurance and structure when needed
- Supporting engagement with hobbies and interests
- Building a positive and trusting relationship
We are looking for someone who:
- Is patient, caring and dependable
- Has a calm and positive approach
- Can communicate clearly and consistently
- Understands the importance of routine and preparation
- Has experience of supporting young people with additional needs, autism, epilepsy or learning disabilities (desirable)
- Is willing to undertake epilepsy training
- Holds a driving licence and has access to a vehicle (preferred)
Training
The young person has epilepsy, which can include tonic-clonic seizures. Full training and guidance will be provided before the role commences.
Hours and Rate of Pay
- 10 hours per week
- £14.67 per hour
