We are seeking to recruit a Support Worker to assist a 14 year old boy in accessing social and leisure activities both at home and within the local community.
He has a diagnosis of Autism, ADHD, social communication difficulties, and developmental and emotional needs. These complex needs affect his behaviour, which he can find difficult to regulate. He has limited awareness of danger and can act impulsively, placing him at significant risk.
Applicants should ideally have experience supporting young people with complex behavioural needs, including Autism and ADHD.
The successful candidate will support him to engage in a range of activities, develop social skills, and participate more confidently in the community.
He has a strong interest in computer based activities and uses them confidently, including his PlayStation and Nintendo Switch. He particularly enjoys games such as Geometry Dash. He also has an interest in music. This role would suit someone with similar interests who can engage with him through these activities. He enjoys water and is keen to learn how to swim, which could form part of his support plan.
Hours
3 hours per week during term time, usually on Saturday mornings. During school holidays, this increases to 8 hours per week. There is some flexibility regarding days and times during school holidays.
Rate of pay
£14.67 per hour. Holiday entitlement is 5.6 weeks per year on a pro rata basis. Reasonable out of pocket expenses will be covered by the employer, including mileage and agreed activity costs. The employer will also provide access to the ILG Personal Assistant Employee Assistance Programme after 6 weeks of employment.
Person Specification
The successful applicant must:
Have experience and a positive understanding of working with young people with disabilities
Have a genuine interest in supporting young people with complex needs, including behaviours that challenge
Be able to use initiative
Be punctual and reliable, as the young person cannot be left unsupervised
Be flexible, positive, supportive and caring
Respect confidentiality at all times
A full driving licence and access to a vehicle with business insurance is essential.
The successful applicant will be required to undertake an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check, which will be funded by the employer.
