OVERVIEW

This is a rewarding role within a small care team to provide person-centred care, support and rehabilitation to a young man with complex needs.

We are looking for a support worker to join the team on contracted part-time hours (additional hours available), who will work on an advance rota system with the rest of the team.

Experience is not necessary, as full training will be given, and who you are is more important to us.

The young man lives with his family in a fully-adapted, accessible family house, with his own accommodation within that and facilities for his care team.  He has cerebral palsy and needs support for all his personal care, mobility and all aspects of daily living.  The young man has a fun and outgoing personality with a great sense of humour.  He enjoys a wide range of activities both at home and out and about and team members have the opportunity to get involved as required to ensure that this young man has a fun-filled and fulfilling life.

The young man has a wheelchair accessible vehicle (WAV), so applicants should hold a manual driving license, but support and training will be given to those with no experience of driving a WAV.

WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

We are looking for someone who is reliable, kind and caring, confident and proactive.  You will be able to balance a fun and outgoing nature with a responsible and mature attitude.  Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are very important, as this young man non-verbal and part of the role includes supporting him with his own communication.

We are looking for someone with a responsible attitude who is reliable, trustworthy and honest to join an existing team.  Other essential qualities are a calm and nurturing nature, good communication skills, respectful and understanding the need for dignity of the individual. You will be someone who is flexible, committed to the role, patient and organised, who wants to make a difference.

Full training will be given on all aspects of the role and the principle responsibilities of the support worker include:

Monday to Friday (College Holidays):

Weekends:
9.00am to 9.00pm (sometimes there are part shifts within this period)

There are also sleeping nights , although currently not every night, as the family cover most of these, but this will change over time.  We expect the team to be flexible so that a high level of person-centred care can be provided, and we also appreciate that our care team has a life outside work too!
