A 33 year old gentleman in the Bedlington area is looking for support workers/carers to provide annual respite support.
The support is to provide a break for family, who he resides with. The support will be the equivalent of 30 days care per year to allow family an extended break, client will attend day services Monday-Friday during this respite. The respite days will likely take place at a holiday let/venue away from the clients home address but within the local area.
The gentleman has a diagnosis of autism, a severe learning disability and cerebral palsy. He has a right sided hemiplegia for which he requires physical assistance and use of a wheelchair outside of the home. He has medication for epileptic seizures and full training will be provided on this.
The client is nonverbal and has limited means to express his needs. He relies on his carers to anticipate and predict his needs; guidance will be provided from the family in the first instance, with understanding the client’s communication and behaviours.
Carers will be required to keep the client safe and assess risk on his behalf during their employment.
The gentleman enjoys being outside and spends time at Cragside, Gibside Hall and other outdoor venues. He is very keen on swimming and somebody willing to access this activity with him would be advantageous.
The client requires support with all aspects of day to day life and the duties of the worker will include, but not be limited to, medication administration, personal care, preparation of meals and drinks, laundry and household tasks directly linked to the client.
A valid, clean driving licence and access to your own vehicle insured with Business use insurance would be preferable.
Hours of work:
- Annual respite hours – 30 days per year – day time and overnight support required to allow family a break from caring duties
Rates of Pay: £11.91 per hour
Out of pocket expenses will be agreed in advance and met by the employer.

Further Information:
An Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service Certificate (DBS) will have to be obtained for the successful candidate (at employer’s expense).
Training:
Where it is required, such as in Health and Safety matters, practical training and guidance will be arranged, and the care worker will be expected to attend. This will include moving and handling, medication awareness and additional training specific to the client.
