We are seeking a reliable and committed Support Worker to assist a 10 year old boy living in the Prudhoe area. The role focuses on supporting him to develop independence away from his family and to access enjoyable, age appropriate activities within the community.
He enjoys being outdoors and staying active. Activities may include walking, climbing, visiting parks and swimming. He is not particularly keen on shopping trips or busy environments, so support should be centred around calm, engaging outdoor experiences.
The ideal candidate will have a calm and patient nature, with the ability to adapt to the child’s individual needs and behaviours, particularly when encouraging participation in activities that may not immediately appeal to him.
Hours are 5 hours per week, to be used either as a block or split into sessions, preferably at weekends. This will increase to 10 hours per week, with greater flexibility during school holidays. There are 5.6 weeks holiday per year pro rata. Agreed expenses will be reimbursed by the employer with prior approval.
A full enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check will be required prior to starting employment. The cost will be covered by the employer.
Relevant training will be provided where appropriate, including medication administration, safeguarding and moving and handling if applicable.
The child has diabetes which is currently managed through finger prick blood glucose monitoring and insulin injections using a pen device. Full training will be provided. However, it is essential that the successful candidate is confident in managing this responsibility independently once trained.
