Help build independence, one step at a time

A quiet, friendly young man with autism in Whittonstall is looking to employ a patient, kind Personal Care Assistant (PA) to support daily living skills and enjoying activities in the community. This part-time support role offers £14.67 per hour for 24 hours per calendar month, to be used flexibly across the month. UKCIL requires a weekly hour’s figure, so the listing shows approximately 5.54 hours per week as an average, rather than a fixed weekly commitment. Days and times will be discussed at interview.

The focus is on getting to know him gradually, building trust and supporting greater independence at his own pace. He can experience sensory overload and find changes to routine distressing, so a calm, consistent approach is important.

What you will help with
• Developing everyday independence and confidence.
• Preparing meals and learning cooking skills, offering reassurance about food safety and creating positive experiences around food.
• Personal care and hygiene, alongside everyday household tasks.
• Accessing the community, going to the gym, and exploring new activities that suit his interests and needs.

About you
Someone patient and kind, who is happy to adapt their support as they gradually get to know him, would be a great fit for this role. Experience supporting someone with autism is preferred, but a passion for creating positive experiences that help him grow, develop confidence and build independence is equally welcome. An understanding of sensory needs, food anxieties and the importance of familiar routines would be valuable. Experience supporting someone with OCD would be helpful.

A driver with their own vehicle is preferred to support community outings.

Pay and hours
£14.67 per hour.
24 hours per calendar month, to be used flexibly across the month. The approximately 5.54 hours per week shown on UKCIL is an average for listing purposes, not a fixed weekly schedule.
