There is the possibility to negotiate alternative days or hours – please state your availability in your application. Set shifts will be provided, though occasional flexibility may be required.
I am a 47-year-old woman living on the edge of South Bristol in a one-bedroom flat with my two cats. Due to chronic illness, I am looking to employ a Personal Care Assistant to support me with day-to-day tasks in and around my home. I live with a number of fluctuating physical health conditions alongside complex and chronic mental health difficulties.
I would describe myself as funny, intelligent, insightful, creative, enthusiastic and determined, with a real passion for creative activities and nature.
I have a very strong sense of independence and need those supporting me to be deeply respectful of my home, my belongings, and my choices. You will need to communicate skilfully and to always be compassionate, considerate and mindful of my needs.
I enjoy a collaborative working relationship with my PA, with them both supporting and empowering me — reducing my mental and physical fatigue, while ensuring I retain full agency over my home and my life choices.
I work best with someone who has a calm, grounded presence and a patient, resilient, good-humoured nature. Warmth, cheerfulness and a genuine sense of humour are important in this role and I am looking for someone who is easy to be around without being high energy or overly talkative.
Tasks will include:
- Collaborative tidying, organising and decluttering
- Independent cleaning — a strong attention to detail and awareness of infection control are essential, due to the nature of my health conditions
- Creating checklists of routine tasks
- Collaborative meal planning and batch cooking nutritious gluten-free food from fresh ingredients — basic cooking skills required (food hygiene, kitchen health & safety, chopping vegetables)
- Supporting me to spend time in my garden and assisting in maintaining the outside space — gardening knowledge is not required.
- Being mindful of my energy levels and gently prompting me to rest during collaborative activities to help prevent symptom flares
- Pet care — my cats' wellbeing is an important part of the role. You will need to be calm and considerate around them, mindful of cleaning chemicals in their environment, and be willing to clean food bowls and litter trays.
- Occasional errands e.g. collecting medication from the pharmacy, posting parcels, and other odd jobs.
Essential Skills required:
- Excellent personal and professional boundaries
- Physical strength and fitness with good spatial awareness - you must have the ability to safely carry things up and down stairs as I live in an upstairs flat
- A mindful, considered approach to practical tasks, taking care with my belongings and surroundings at all times
- A caring, compassionate personality with a high level of understanding of mental health difficulties and a trauma-informed approach
- Calm, grounded and cheerful nature, with a positive attitude
- Willingness to follow direction and allow me to take the lead when reorganising
- Reliable, conscientious and self-motivated
- Excellent communication and listening skills
- Good organisational and planning skills, with the ability to work independently and use initiative when required
- A genuine love of cats and commitment to their wellbeing while working
- Clean and considerate personal habits
This role is subject to an Enhanced DBS Check
This is a permanent role, but a short-term or casual contract can be offered instead if this is your preference.
Benefits:
- £13.60 per hour
- Statutory Annual Leave and Statutory Sick Pay
- Pension Scheme (if applicable)
- ILG membership and Blue Light Card (providing many additional benefits)
- 45p per mile if using own vehicle during working hours (this does not include commuting)
