We are looking for a kind, patient, and reliable personal assistant to support our sociable and engaging 19 - year-old son.
He lives with Autism, Treacher Collins Syndrome with Robin Sequence, and learning disabilities. He is non-verbal, registered as profoundly deaf, and communicates primarily through British Sign Language (BSL). At times, he may exhibit behaviours that challenge; therefore, it is important that he is supported by an individual who remains calm, patient, understanding, and consistent in their approach.
More than anything, he needs someone willing to take the time to get to know him. He enjoys getting out and about bowling, swimming, bus and train rides, trips to the park, and spending time in the community. At home, he enjoys participating in activities involving sensory objects.
Your role will be to support him safely, encourage his independence, and help him enjoy the activities he loves.
Our son requires:
- Personal care
- Tracheostomy care
- Seizure awareness (under investigation)
- Peg Feeding
- Medical awareness of complex health needs and interventions
- Support with behaviours that may challenge
- Community access and social activities
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced personal assistant who meets the following criteria:
- British Sign Language trained (essential)
- Experienced in care (essential)
- Full UK driving licence (essential)
- A caring, patient and genuinely compassionate
- Confident supporting complex care needs.
The right person would need to be flexible in the hours they offer, we are looking for someone to support him at weekends, evenings in our home and out in the community.
Hourly Rate: A starting rate for a PA without BSL would be £15 and then £16 on BSL training completion. Training will be provided and the PA will be required to sign a training agreement.
We are also looking for someone to offer overnight respite (As and when required) on a “sleep night” agreement.
All positions would be subject to relevant training, clear DBS and references.
Benefits – 5.6 weeks paid annual leave, access to workplace pension with employer contribution at statutory rate, training provided, DBS check and Update Service paid by the employer
Start date to be agreed but ideally as soon as safer recruitment checks have been completed.
