Personal Assistant Required Support for a Mature Lady with Mild dementia - Newcastle upon Tyne - NE20
Job Reference (cc4cc3e7)
Location: Ponteland
We are looking for a self-employed kind, reliable and experienced female Personal Assistant to support a mature lady who has mild to moderate dementia and has recently returned home after rehabilitation for a broken arm.
About the Role
Support is needed with:
• Moving and handling
• Showering / bathing and all aspects of personal care (including toileting)
• Mobility – the lady mobilises with a walking frame with the assistance of one person
• Helping her remain as independent as possible
• Medicine administration from a prepared dossett box
• Continence care
• Other reasonable duties to support Isobel’s independence and wellbeing.
Family members live in the home with the family. There is a stair lift available. A well-behaved dog also lives in the home.
Initially the support will focus on morning and evening routines (getting up and preparing for bed). In time we hope to build a small team of two or three Personal Assistants to share shifts across 7 days a week with extended hours.
We are looking for a patient, calm person who is a good communicator and reliable. Someone who has experience caring for someone with dementia would be desirable.
Car driver essential due to location, frequency and reliability of public transport.
Essential Requirements
• Female Personal Assistant
• Minimum of one year’s experience providing hands-on physical care
• Non-smoker
• No perfume, aftershave or scented products to be worn on shift
• No long or false nails
• No rings, watches or hand jewellery while on shift
About Me (from Isobel)
I’m Isobel and I’m looking for someone warm and reliable who can support me to shower and dress in the mornings and ready for bed in the evenings. I have mild to moderate dementia, and my mobility has become limited after a fall, but I can walk with the assistance of one person and a walking frame.
I live with my husband (who is independent but cannot provide personal care and also walks with a walker) and our grown-up son (who is not always available). We have one lovely, well-behaved dog who is part of the family.
If you are as self-employed carer with patience, a professional manner who enjoys working with older people, we would love to hear from you.
