Are you a kind, patient and enthusiastic individual with experience supporting children with additional needs? A rewarding opportunity is available for a Personal Assistant to support a happy and engaging 6-year-old boy in Thetford.
This young boy has Autism Spectrum Disorder, sleep difficulties and PICA (eating non-food items). He enjoys water play, messy play using safe edible materials, and has a particular interest in trains, buses and other vehicles. He requires constant supervision as he is unaware of danger and can become dysregulated at times, so a calm and supportive approach is essential.
What the role involves
- Providing support at home and in the local community.
- Helping to keep the child safe during activities and outings.
- Supporting participation in enjoyable activities, including potential community-based groups and clubs.
- Providing personal care, including assistance with changing, washing and dressing when required.
- Using supportive strategies to help manage periods of dysregulation and promote wellbeing.

Essential:
- Experience of working with children with Special Educational Needs (SEN).
- Ability to support a child when they become dysregulated.
- Calm, gentle and patient approach.
- Enthusiastic and positive attitude.

Summary Terms and Conditions
- The rate of pay for this position is £12.89 per hour
- Hours and times of work as follows: 2 hours per week to be worked after school one day per week – Ideally Tuesdays 5pm – 7pm.
- The annual holiday entitlement for this position will be equivalent to the work I would normally expect to be done during 5.6 consecutive weeks.
- Access to free Care Skills training for employed workers.
The post is subject to the following:
- A satisfactory enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) check, the cost of which will be covered by the employer.
- Satisfactory references from two referees, one of which must be your current or last employer.
- Completion of a satisfactory probation period of 6 months.
