Job Role - Personal Assistant -
We are looking for a reliable, confident, and proactive Personal Assistant (PA) to support a young person, at home and in the community. This role aims to promote independence, safety and enjoyable access to meaningful activities.
About the Role
You will support a family with a young adult who has additional needs. He is non-verbal, uses PECS (Picture Exchange Communication System), and responds well to prompts, modelling, and basic spoken commands. The PA should feel confident engaging with a young adult who uses alternative communication methods.
Support is mainly required for:
- Community access and social activities – cycling (Bristol Family Cycling Centre), parks, playgrounds, walks, shopping trips, bowling, concerts
- Personal care – requires support when using bathroom facilities. Prompting is usually sufficient, but direct assistance is provided when necessary
- Domestic support – minimal 1:1 task such as light cleaning or laundry
- Meal preparation/cooking as required
Pay & Employment Details
- Hourly rate: £12.60 per hour
- Start date: ASAP (flexible)
- Paid through PAYE (not cash-in-hand)
- Mileage may be reimbursed if included in the care plan
Working Pattern
Support is needed at different times depending on the school schedule:
- Term time: Any time
- School holidays: Evenings and daytime support
- Weekends: Mainly required
Total hours: 6 hours per week
Hours are flexible to meet the family’s needs.
About the Household

- Child in the home has asthma
- Non-smoking household: PA smoking not permitted indoors
Experience & Skills
- The PA must have previous care experience supporting children or young people with additional or communication needs.
- Confidence with visual communication systems (such as PECS), de-escalation, and supporting an energetic child in community activities is essential.
