A Personal Assistant (PA) is required to assist my son (aged 7yrs) who has Autism (also under assessment for ADHD) and can sometimes exhibit challenging behaviour. My son requires one to one support, and the PA will support him to access social activities outside of the family home. This will allow him to increase his awareness of his surroundings and learn new skills he will find useful in the future, such as engaging in different social situations. He can struggle to manage his emotions and often gets frustrated with this, which can result in outbursts of crying and sometimes anger.
 
The PA will support my son for 4 hours on a Weekend or after school and this will give me and his mum and our other children an opportunity to do other household tasks. The 4 hours support can involve supporting him in the local community engaging in activities such as going to the park or play with at home.  This support will give him more of an opportunity to practise life skills that he currently learning at school with one to one support and become more independent, which will in turn make it easier at home and with my other children. 
Autism and PECS trained desirable for this post but not essential. 
 
 
SUPERVISION            
 
My personal assistant will be directed by and accountable to us in all aspects of their work.  He/She must always ask what we require and not make assumptions about any aspect of the assistance he needs or how it should be carried out. He/She should not carry out tasks unless we have first discussed it.
 
 
MAIN DUTIES
 
My personal assistant will be required to do the following tasks and may be asked to carry out other tasks of a similar nature.
 There will be a 6mth probationary period.
 
General
 
Provide him with one-to-one support when they are out in wider community.
Support him to develop his awareness safety in the wider community, for example crossing roads, travelling by public transport and not talking to strangers.
Support him to access different activities in the community.
Support him to access social and leisure activities in the community.
 
Leeds CIL will complete an enhanced DBS check for successful applicants and free training is available for PA's via Leeds CIL.
