Personal Assistant for Disabled Young Man in Brislington
My client, J, has Autism and lives with his mother in Brislington, Bristol. J and his mum are seeking a Mandarin-speaking Personal Assistant to support him in building his independence and accessing activities in the community.
The family have requested a PA who is of the Christian faith, as Christianity is a meaningful part of their family life, identity, and daily routine. Having someone who understands and respects their faith would help J feel more comfortable, understood, and supported.
J has a range of interests including drawing, animation, and video games. He currently attends a local youth group and would like support from his PA to attend and participate in these activities.
Main Duties
Supporting J to:
- Build on his independence skills by accessing the local community.
- Navigate safely to and from his home.
- Plan routes, use public transport, and become more familiar with his local area.
- Go grocery shopping.
- Engage in community-based activities and hobbies.
- Attend youth group sessions and other social opportunities.
- Develop confidence and social skills through positive encouragement and support.
Essential Criteria
- Experience of working with [please specify relevant experience, e.g. autism, learning disabilities, neurodivergent young people, etc.].
- Fluent Mandarin speaker.
- Non-smoker.
- Reliable, patient, and supportive approach.
- [Must have access to own vehicle if required].
Desirable Criteria
- Experience supporting young adults to develop independence skills.
- Knowledge of community activities and resources in the local area.
- Previous experience working as a Personal Assistant, Support Worker, or in a similar role.
- Understanding of Christian faith and values.

- Good communication and social skills.
- Patient, encouraging, and empathetic.
- Able to work independently and use initiative.
- Respect for confidentiality, privacy, and personal choice.
- Previous PA experience would be advantageous but is not essential.
Location: Brislington, Bristol
Hours: 8 hours per week.
Some hours will be required on Saturdays, with flexibility around J's college timetable during the week.
Pay: £13.20 per hour
Holiday Entitlement:
5.6 weeks per year, including bank holidays (pro rata for part-time hours).
Start Date: ASAP
