Personal Assistant for a young person P/T@ £16.47/hr in Bristol - FTE - £32.1k - Bristol - BS49

We are looking for an experienced Personal Assistant to help look after our 6 year old son, who has speech and language delay, Autism, developmental delay and sensory processing difficulties. He was also diagnosed with Acute lymphoblastic leukaemia in August 2023 but is now in remission. He has a gastrostomy and has feeds 3 times daily and needs help with personal care. He loves to play but needs 24/7 supervision to keep him safe.
Location- Yatton, North Somerset, BS49
Hours- 6hrs/week during term-time and 12hrs/week during school holidays. Mixture of weekday hours- ideally 4:15-5:45pm 2-3 times a week +/- a few weekend hours and more flexible hours (daytime/weekend) in holidays. Any amount or mixture of the above would be considered to make up the hours we have allocated (as we have another PA who does some flexible hours already).
Hourly rate of pay- £16.47 (self-employed PA) or £12.55 (PAYE PA)
Flexible hours to be agreed and shared with another PA.
Pro-rata annual leave and pension scheme. Additional training provided relating to gastrostomy. Any offers are subject to an enhanced DBS check, receipt of two references. Driving license and own car desirable but not mandatory.
Job Requirements and Responsibilities
Ideally looking for someone who is experienced with children with disabilities, particularly with children with communication difficulties and autism. Someone who has experience using a total language approach (for example using visual aids, gestures, Makaton) is appreciated but not essential.
Most important is someone who is patient, kind, calm and easy going and happy to play and follow Oliver’s lead.
Responsibilities to include, but not exclusive to:
-Looking after him in the home/garden and taking him to local play areas.
-Possibility of looking after him at a play area/entertainment venue further afield in the future with or without parent (travel arrangements to be agreed).
-Playing and following his lead.
-Taking care of his personal care requirements as required (including pad changes/assist with toileting) and encouraging to eat/drink when needed.
-Taking account of his medical needs including his leukaemia vulnerabilities and keeping him safe from infections. Training can be provided.
-Awareness of his gastrostomy tube safety and managing a feed through his PEG tube using the feeding pump. (Training provided)
Our son is a very brave, determined boy. He is cheeky and funny. He loves cuddles, swings, painting. He is very into Pokémon, Sonic, Super Mario, My little Ponies, Paw Patrol and Transformers. He loves his favourite songs and dancing. He loves any form of messy play and going to the park. He struggles to communicate and his speech can be difficult to understand but he loves having fun.
