Your main duties and responsibilities include (but are not limited to):-
JOB TITLE Personal Assistant
HOURS 4 hours per week (usually Saturday)
RATE OF PAY £9.43 per hour weekdays £11.74 weekend rate
LOCATION My own home in Wetherby and in the wider community
PURPOSE OF JOB
My daughter has been diagnosed with Autism. A Personal Assistant (PA) is required to support my daughter in the home and in the community to develop her self-image and her independence skills.
My daughter is a wonderful girl full of fun and laughter but can also be a lazy teenager who likes nothing more than staying in her pjs on the computer all day. She likes cult videos, anime and dark comedy, her main interests are the computer and drawing. She would like to work with dogs when she grows up! The PA would be a friend to her and would need to be computer literate and have an interest in computing. They would need to be willing to spend time with my daughter on the computer enjoying her interests and playing computer games.
I would also like to encourage her to hopefully go out most weeks even if only to buy a snack from Morrisons, but possibly going into Game or anime bookshop or art gallery, museum or library in Leeds or Harrogate, swimming is also a possibility.
The PA will support to develop and give the opportunities to build her social skills. The PA will support to access public transport, and to go into Wetherby, Leeds or Harrogate on occasion and support with shopping. If my daughter spends her own money when you are supporting her shopping in the community, you must ensure her receipts are kept and given to me.
My daughter is hoping to go start college in September to study animal management. She loves all animals from dogs to exotic pets. One possibility could be looking at helping her volunteer at an animal rescue centre; in particular the exotic animal rescue centre in Knaresborough.
My daughter has a bus pass which enables the person supporting her to travel on buses for free however a driver would be an advantage, as we live in Wetherby.
The hours are variable from a Saturday morning or afternoon or Sunday morning or afternoon I imagine the majority would take place around 10 until 2 or 12 till 4 on a Saturday but flexibility is necessary as one of the purposes of the Personal Assistant (PA) would be to give the rest of the family some much needed respite and time together, also as an opportunity for my daughter to build life skills and become more independent, and for her to do things she enjoys independently of her parents.
Anything you are not sure about always consult one of us before acting, I feel we are an easy going family and the role of the Personal Assistant is to enrich the life of our child, be her friend and to give us a little respite.
SUPERVISION
My personal assistant will be directed by and accountable to me in all aspects of their work. They must always ask what I require and not make assumptions about any aspect of the assistance I need or how it should be carried out. They should not carry out tasks unless we have first discussed it.
MAIN DUTIES
My personal assistant will be required to do the following tasks and may be asked to carry out other tasks of a similar nature.
General
The PA must ensure my daughter is supervised at all times
Be a friend, as she has very little to no interaction with peers outside of school.
Support her love of the computer, animals and art.
Support to develop her independence skills by accompanying her on outings in the local community
Support to develop her social and life skills
Any other request that I may reasonably make
I will not reimburse you for lunch and other additional expenses.
