Job Purpose
To provide support and supervision for a child with additional needs

About the child
He is a happy, active young boy who enjoys being around people and exploring what is going on around him. He uses a small number of spoken words to communicate and needs close 1:1 supervision, particularly when out and about, as he can move very quickly towards something that catches his interest and may not always stop when called.
He loves playing with small balls and toys that make interesting sounds, and can spend a long time watching marble-run videos. He also really enjoys music, singing and musical toys. Sensory play is another big favourite, especially playing with things such as rice, lentils, sand and other small or messy materials.
He is toilet trained and will indicate when he needs the toilet, so it is important that whoever is supporting him responds to this promptly. He also has specific dietary needs and requires food to be prepared to a blended or modified texture.
He generally enjoys music, although some songs or louder sounds can occasionally upset him, so it is helpful to follow his cues and adjust things if needed.
A PA might support him with trips to parks and playgrounds, sensory activities, trampolining, ball play, music-based activities and other local outings that match his interests.
Job Details
Duties to include:
- Providing safe 1:1 supervision and support.
- Taking the child to local activities, parks and other suitable outings.
- Supporting and encouraging his communication and independence.
- Supporting him with toileting when required and responding appropriately when he indicates that he needs the toilet.
- Supporting with meals, snacks and drinks where required.
- Engaging positively with him through play and activities that he enjoys.
- Following routines and instructions provided by his parent.
- Maintaining his safety and wellbeing at all times.
- Communicating clearly with his parent about the session and any issues or incidents.
- Arriving punctually for agreed sessions and giving as much notice as possible if unable to attend.
Summary terms and conditions
· The rate of pay for this position is £15.00 per hour
· Hours of work: up to 3 hours, once a week, plus additional 25 hours on a flexible basis (holidays etc)
· Applicants should be available for evening and weekends as well as daytime working hours as agreed in advance
· 5.6 weeks per year pro-rata paid leave, inclusive of bank holidays
· Free training as appropriate for role
The post is subject to the following:
· A satisfactory enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) check, the cost of which will be covered by the employer.
· Completion of a satisfactory probationary period of 3 months
