About the person who needs support:
L is an 11-year-old autistic boy. He is verbal but has very limited communication skills. He loves Lego, trampoline, water park, washing machine and hand driers. He enjoys Flip Out in LS14 EXCEPT its tannoy. He is routine driven and can be repetitive. He has a gentle nature but can gets dysregulated. He helps chores, can use some kitchen appliances and prepare a simple lunch.
Hours:
• up to 12 hours/week during term time
• up to 16 hours/week during school holidays
• work pattern is negotiable and can be shared between two PAs.
Rate: £13.23/hour
Main duties:
The successful PA will:
- Provide unconditional positive regard, building a trusting and supportive relationship.
- Help L to access the local community and enjoy activities.
- Encourage communication and social interactions.
- Build L's confidence and independence. Help L to learn important life skills such as road safety and lunch preparation.
- Develop L's emotional regulation strategies and coping skills.
Requirements:
1. Experience of working with children with autism would be beneficial, but most essentially, we’re looking for someone kind, reliable and motivated.
2. Calm and able to support emotional regulation.
3. Share some of L's interests or is happy to support him in enjoying them.
4. A driver with access to a car would be an advantage.
Enhanced DBS will be required, employer will cover the cost.
