Purpose of the job

To support a boy with Cytomegalovirus and severe global development delay in the home and community for restricted mobility and may need to use a wheelchair when out in the community.  He has bilateral sensory-neural hearing loss for which he wears hearing aids he also suffers from poor growth and constipation. He is dependent on carers for his personal needs and wears pads at present although he is sitting on the toilet at home and school and is making progress in self-help skills.

He enjoys soft play and sensory environments and likes music.  He likes to go to the donkey sanctuary and regularly attends hydrotherapy and rebound. He loves outdoor play and going to the park and using a trampoline.  Whilst at school intensive interaction is used and this has proved very beneficial to him.  (The NHS offer these courses) He particularly likes sensory stimuli being tickled holding hands ribbons and all sorts of fabric.

He interacts well with adults and is showing some interest in his peers.  He now watches adults sign and seems to concentrate.  He also now directs his gaze towards activities in front of him and is spending less time in self stimulatory activities.

He can lead an adult to a place where he would like to be and will take you by the hand.  He enjoys a bath and finds this very therapeutic.  He can make his needs known by leading you to places ie the fridge or a cup for a drink.

He enjoys food and likes chips/rice and chicken (KFC) porridge/cereal and packed lunches. He needs support when eating although has begun feeding himself.  He enjoys tv and loves to roll and has a happy disposition.

The main focus of the role is to develop my communication skills and promote my social skills undertaking more stimulating and sensory activities which in turn will alleviate the frustration that I feel when bored and when I have communication difficulties which can lead to self- harming behavior.

You will be expected to liaise with my mother regarding my care.

The person I employ will have an understanding of the need for confidentiality in all areas of work and be reliable.
