A middle-aged gentleman in the Alnwick area is looking to recruit a personal carer to support him out in the local community. The gentleman has a Traumatic Brain Injury which has left him with cognitive impairment. The client is very impulsive due to his brain injury. Close supervision, pre-emption and distraction may be required by the carer, to ensure the gentleman does not act on impulse and expose himself to danger. The client is unable to risk assess social situations and he has a history of excess alcohol consumption so areas that provide alcohol must be avoided when out in the community. The family are looking for carers who are friendly and active. 

He enjoys accessing the community, going for walks, socialising in the community, going bowling, visits to coffee shops, etc.

Hours of work: 7hr a week on a Thursday or a Friday – day and times to be discussed at interview

Rates of Pay: £10.82 per hour                                                                                   

Location: Alnwick area

Main Duties:
Include a breakdown of tasks that will be required/main duties i.e., Enabling support required with socialising and accessing the local community and visiting different places of interest, i.e. Worker to have an interest in shopping, swimming, cycling, playing pool, billiards and golf. Watching movies, listening to music etc. 

We require a care worker to get out of the house with the client, allowing his mother to have some time away and respite from her caring role. Experience is preferred but not essential. Also, to be flexible to cover for holidays and sickness

The role requires close personal contact with an individual who is extremely vulnerable to the risk of infection and disease transmission. Preference may be given to applicants who have been fully vaccinated against Covid-19. Careful consideration will be given to applicants who can show the vaccination is not suitable for them on reasonable grounds.

Personal specification:
Full driving license and access to a car 
Calm, patient and understanding
Honest, reliable and with a caring nature.
Punctual, trustworthy and Respect confidentiality.
Have a happy positive caring nature. 
Have an outgoing personality        
Ability to both take instructions and use own initiative. 
Experience in health & social care desirable – experience in working with people with both physical and mental health needs
Respect confidentiality is a must    
 
Further Information:  An Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service Certificate (DBS) will have to be obtained for the successful candidate (at employer’s expense).

Training: Where it is required, such as in Health and Safety matters, practical training and guidance will be arranged, and the care worker will be expected to attend. This will include moving and handling, medication awareness and additional training specific to the client.
