As a Complex Care Support Worker/PA, you will play a crucial role in the day-to-day care and support of an individual with complex health needs. This includes physical disability, learning disability, mental health support, and chronic incurable illness. You will work closely with the individual and their family to ensure they receive the personalised care they need to live a fulfilling and independent life. This role offers a variety of opportunities to care for a fun loving, vibrant, Christian, young 40 something female wheelchair user with complex health needs. I am looking for a female PA who can help me have the best days I can by assisting me with daily tasks including health, personal care, transfers, medication, attending appointments, domestic support, accessing the community and hobbies.
- You will be required to carry out health tasks following relevant, appropriate training and competency assessment.
- Provide high-quality person centred care and support for an individual with complex healthcare needs in their own home and/or in the community.
- Support client with complex and unpredictable conditions such as chronic and acute pain, spasmodic limbs, physical and sensory disability, neurological impairment, memory loss, acquired brain injury, autism and mental health challenges.
- The role of a Complex Care Support Worker or Personal Assistant enables me to live an independent life in my own home whilst ensuring that my health and wellbeing needs are met.
Key Responsibilities:
- One to one supervision and support is needed in all areas of client’s daily life
- Helping client move around safely, using assistive devices.
- Assist in moving and handling transfers from bed, chair, car, etc to and from wheelchair and repositioning to prevent pressure damage.
- Administer medication and support with clinical procedures (following appropriate professional training). Complex medication routine including emergency medications, Husband orders and prepares medication in advance.
- Monitor vital signs, BP, oxygen levels, pain levels, mood, behaviour, and physical health, observing changes in the client's condition, and reporting them to appropriate personnel. Minimising the risk of Autonomic Dysreflexia following Spinal Injury.
- Be aware of any health deterioration and act immediately, reporting to appropriate personnel then administering emergency medication, as required
- Acute management of illness, follow protocol as appropriate following deterioration, contact GP, 111 or 999
- Assist with all aspects of daily living such as bathing, dressing/undressing, eating and toileting
- Supervision when eating and drinking to prevent aspiration due to dysphagia, regular choking incidence requiring PA intervention.
- Client at risk of malnutrition due to unintentional weight loss caused by hyperhydrosis, muscle wasting, reduced handgrip and poor appetite
- Assist to maintain high fluid intake to help prevent and manage UTI’s and autonomic dysfunction
- Assist when eating and drinking as required
- Assist with intermittent catheter management as required
- Assist with hair, skin, nails, legs, feet, eyes etc.
- Assist with oral care as required
- Deep tissue massage (following appropriate professional training and competency assessment) to prevent and relieve aggressive spasms and aid with pain management as appropriate.
- Assist in the prevention of UTI’s, Autonomic dysreflexia (AD), Skin breakdown/pressure care and infection.
- Perform muscle and joint physiotherapy using passive movement, daily (following appropriate professional training and competency assessment)
- Perform chest physiotherapy, daily (following appropriate professional training and competency assessment)
- Assist to use AeroChamber plus and Spiriva Respimat, daily and as required for rescue when breathless.
- Providing companionship, emotional and mental health support.
- Provide support as client suffers significantly due to loss of independence, social isolation, and pain-related emotional distress.
- Provide support as client experiences frustration and low mood especially during ‘payback’ episodes after exertion and/or social interaction.
- Physical, emotional and psychological support due to memory issues (short and long term), confusion, and cognitive fatigue.
- Support with anxiety, depression, and intrusive suicidal ideation.
- Support with sensory processing difficulties, including but not limited to sensitivity to light, sound, speech and touch.
- Provide reassurance due to client’s frequent disorientation.
- Support client in accessing a church, community resources, activities, and social events
- Travel - Driving duties including short and long distances
- Maintain accurate records and reports on client progress and health status, including medication administered.
- Handover to husband reporting events.
- Ensure the safety and well-being of client at all times.
- Changing bedding when required whilst you are on duty.
- Maintaining and cleaning wheelchair and equipment after use, essential when going from outside, back into the home.
- Domestic duties - cleaning, ironing, shopping, occasional food preparation.
- Support with online access paperwork, bills and letters, as required.
- Maintain strict confidentiality of client at all times.

Car driver essential, Own vehicle preferred, Full UK driving Licence.
- Job type – This is a permanent position subject to safer recruitment checks, competency assessments for all required healthcare tasks and successful probation and induction
- Benefits – 5.6 weeks paid annual leave, access to workplace pension with employer contribution at statutory rate, training provided, DBS check and Update Service paid by the employer. Pay rate will rise to £15.71 per hour on successful completion of probation period.
