Home Care Support Workers are required for a care plan in a small village approximately 15mins drive north of Alnwick.  Calls are to support a female client with a diagnosis of Batten's disease which is a progressive life shortening illness.  

Times of calls can be flexible but approximately 8.30/9am and 5.30/6pm for five days per week. The care plan is for 5 days out of 76 but the five days can be flexible between family and worker.  The enabling hours are also designed to be flexible and broken up across the week.  The enabling hours could be tagged onto any of the morning or evening calls.  



 

Experience preferred but equipment training and medication training will be provided.

Rates of Pay: £13.66 per hour                 
 
Main Duties: 

Support is required for all elements of care as client is unable to see, communicate or move and is completely reliant on others to attend to all activities of daily living.  Constant reassurance is needed when providing any support to client. 
A mobile hoist is used for all personal care interventions and any repositioning as client is unable to assist or cooperate with transfers and requires the assistance of 2 carers.  Support every morning and evening for all personal care tasks. 
Client has a pureed diet and support is required in all aspects of preparing meals, feeding and drinking particularly around choking risks. 
Support required to administer medication safely when required and complete any relevant documentation. 
Enabling support is flexible and only requires one carer.  Client has access to attendant controlled wheelchair to be able to access the community. 
Support required around any general tasks for client including laundry, bed change, ensuring wet room area is clean and safe, medication collection, support to attend hospital appointment

Further Information:  An Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service Certificate (DBS) will have to be obtained for the successful candidate (at employer’s expense).  References will be required. 

Training: Where it is required, such as in Health and Safety matters, practical training and guidance will be arranged and the care worker will be expected to attend.
