Care Assistant for a young boy P/T @ £13.66/hr in Newbiggin-by-the-sea - NEWBIGGIN-BY-THE-SEA - NE64
Job Reference (ce37e136)
POST: | Support Worker
LOCATION: | Newbiggin area
JOB PURPOSE: | To provide enabling support for a 7-year-old male child with a diagnosis of autism and learning disabilities with limited communication.
REF: | NP/Newbiggin
Main Duties
We are looking to recruit two support workers, to work together, providing 2:1 support for the child both at home and to access age-appropriate activities in the community. Until a relationship is formed with both the child and the family support will take place at home.
The child has a diagnosis of autism with a lower functioning age and is nonverbal with limited communication. He has no awareness of risk and danger and requires support to ensure he always remains safe. Personal care will be required as part of the role including toilet prompting at home and pull-up changing when out and about.
He is a young man who loves being outside in the garden, playing in the mud, on his swing or bouncing on the trampoline. He is very active and will climb and run as much as he can. When out and about along the promenade, which he enjoys, he is often in a buggy as he has no awareness of risk and danger and will run towards water as a result.
The child has regularly demonstrated adverse and unpredictable behaviour towards others including family, and workers with experience of supporting children/young adults with behaviour challenges would be preferred. We are looking for committed workers to build up a strong relationship with the child, supporting him with appropriate behaviour strategies. Behaviour training will be provided to support this and will take place prior to commencing employment.
There is no medication administration required within this role.
