Personal Assistant Required
A Personal Assistant is required to support a friendly and thoughtful young gentleman to access community activities, develop life skills, increase confidence, and build independence. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a genuine difference in a young person's life while supporting them to achieve their goals and enjoy meaningful activities in the community.
This young man enjoys a wide range of activities including swimming, bowling, going to the cinema, cooking and baking, shopping for ingredients, playing on his Nintendo Switch, drawing cartoon characters, gardening, and growing vegetables at home. He enjoys being involved in planning activities and benefits from knowing plans in advance.
The role will involve providing 1:1 support in the community and encouraging participation in activities he enjoys, while helping him develop important life skills such as using public transport, handling money, making choices, problem-solving, and increasing independence. Support should be provided in small, manageable steps that help him learn at his own pace and build confidence without becoming overwhelmed.
The successful Personal Assistant will also provide encouragement and gentle prompts with daily living skills, including personal care routines such as getting dressed and changed when required. Support will also be needed to help develop awareness of safety, community confidence, emotional wellbeing, self-regulation, and positive social skills.
The ideal candidate will be patient, nurturing, and understanding, with a calm and positive approach and a genuine desire to help a young person achieve greater independence. Building trust, promoting confidence, and developing a positive working relationship will be key aspects of the role.
Previous experience in care, support work, education, youth work, community support, or working with young people would be beneficial; however, the right attitude, values, and commitment are more important. A person-centred approach, sensitivity to the young man's preferences, and good communication skills are essential.

Hours
• 3 hours per week during term time
