Job Reference (ecd9e692)

Personal Assistant Required

A Personal Assistant is required to support a friendly and thoughtful young gentleman to access activities in the community, develop life skills, and build confidence and independence.

This young man enjoys a wide range of activities including swimming, bowling, going to the cinema, cooking and baking, shopping for ingredients, playing on his Nintendo Switch, drawing cartoon characters, gardening, and growing vegetables at home. He enjoys being involved in planning activities and benefits from knowing plans in advance.

The role will involve supporting him to take part in activities he enjoys, while encouraging the development of important life skills such as using public transport, handling money, making choices, and increasing independence. Support should be provided in small, manageable steps that help him learn at his own pace without becoming overwhelmed.

The successful Personal Assistant will also provide encouragement and gentle prompts with daily living tasks, including personal care routines such as getting dressed and changed when required. Support will also be needed to help develop awareness of safety and confidence in the community, emotional wellbeing, and self-regulation skills.

The ideal candidate will be patient, nurturing, and understanding, with a gentle approach and a genuine desire to help a young person achieve greater independence. Building trust and developing a positive working relationship will be an important aspect of the role.

Previous care or support experience would be beneficial; however, the right attitude, values, and commitment are more important. A person-centred approach, sensitivity to the young man's preferences, and good communication skills are essential.
