Job Reference (b5b756a8)
A young man in the Alnwick area is seeking a friendly, reliable enabler to support him for around 5 hours each week, primarily in the afternoons, helping him engage with his local community. The family are looking for someone who can adopt a person-centred approach, supporting the young man to follow his interests and enjoy a range of social and recreational activities.
He enjoys browsing game shops, going to the cinema, eating out at cafés and restaurants, and playing on his PlayStation and Xbox consoles. He’s a big fan of Doctor Who, loves attending Comicon conventions and visiting museums, and also enjoys going bowling.
Main Duties: The role involves supporting a young man with a learning disability to develop independence, communication skills, and physical activity, mainly in the Alnwick area. Acting as a ‘support buddy,’ you’ll encourage his interests and help him enjoy activities safely. The role requires close personal contact with someone highly vulnerable to infection, so attention to health and hygiene is essential.

- Driving licence preferred.
- Calm, patient, caring, honest, reliable, and fun.
- Punctual, trustworthy, able to maintain confidentiality.
- Positive, happy outlook with an outgoing personality.
- Able to follow instructions and take initiative when needed.
- Experience in health and social care is desirable, with an understanding of learning disabilities, autism, and mental health needs.
Hours & Pay: 5 hours per week at £13.74 per hour. Preferred timing: afternoons from 1pm, to be discussed at interview.
Additional Information: The successful candidate will need an Enhanced DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check, which will be arranged and paid for by the employer. Training will be provided as required, including health and safety, moving and handling, medication awareness, and any client-specific guidance.
Health Consideration: Preference may be given to applicants fully vaccinated against Covid-19. Applicants unable to receive the vaccine for legitimate reasons will be considered carefully.
