Main Duties
We are looking to recruit a support worker/enabler to provide 1:1 support for a 16-year-old young man to access the local community and gain key life skills preparing him for the transition to adult hood.
COSTS FOR MILEAGE TO COMMUTE TO AND FROM THE YOUNG PERSONS HOME ADDRESS WILL BE FUNDED BY EMPLOYER
The young person has a diagnosis of autism and ADHD. Enabling support is required to promote independence and encourage him to access the community including the use of public transport. The young man would prefer to make use of the train with the intention of progressing to other forms of transport as his independence grows. The employer is looking for somebody with experience of supporting younger individuals with autism and ADHD and is aware of mannerism and behaviours that come along with this diagnosis.
The young person has an awareness of risk and danger but as with all enabling support the expectation is the support worker will keep them safe and free from danger at all times.
There will be no medication to be administered within this role.
A car driver is desired due to the rural location and if using their vehicle in the course of employment they must be insured for business use.
Hours
- 12 hours per 4 weeks to be used flexibly 1with :1 support
- Support will normally take place on a weekend although flexibility is required
Rate of pay
£10.82 per hour. Holiday entitlement is 5.6 weeks per year pro-rata.
Out-of-pocket expenses will be paid by employer.
Additional mileage will be paid in agreement with the employer.
Person Specification
The successful applicant must:
- Have experience and a positive understanding of children with disabilities
- Have a genuine interest in working with young people with complex needs
- Be able to respond patiently, positively and sensitively to any changes in behaviour
- Have a high degree of initiative
- Be punctual and reliable as the young person cannot be left unsupervised
- Be flexible
- Have a happy, positive and caring nature
- Respect confidentiality
The successful candidate will require an Enhanced Certificate of Disclosure (DBS), cost to be met by employer.
