Job title: Personal assistant (PA)

Location: Adel, Leeds

Job purpose:

To enable our 12 year old daughter E to live as independently as possible. An experienced PA is required to care for E when she comes home from school and to help her access activities according to special interests.

Normal working pattern is Mon-Wed – 15:00 – 18:00 but there may be some additional ad-hoc hours from time to time.

No over-nights or personal care required.

About the employer:

Our daughter E, is a 12 year old autistic girl with learning disabilities. E is generally happy and has a great sense of humour. She enjoys gaming, watching movies, trampolining and shopping. She has a dog called Rosie, who she loves very much and likes to take for a walk. 

E is entering her second year at secondary school in September and we need someone to support her after school, Mon-Weds. She will be transported home via mini bus. Her 14 year old sister will also be in the house but is independent.

E will need help with reading practice, cooking and general home activities.

E can need help to regulate her emotions through predictable routine patterns e.g. knowing what will happen and in what order.

Main duties:

  §   Direction e.g. getting out of school uniform/dressed for bed
  §   Reading and writing practice
  §   Attend medical appointments (occasional)
  §   Do hobbies such as dog walking, play games
  §   Attend social events such as going the cinema or trampolining (occasionally)
  §   Light domestic chores e.g. preparing dinner, washing/ironing, taking E to the shop (walking distance)

These activities will vary from day to day.

Type of person we are looking for:

  §   Experienced PA with an interest in social care
  §   Must be able to build a good relationship but able to set clear boundaries for acceptable behaviour
  §   Good sense of humour and flexibility required
  §   Able to support Eve to regulate her emotions, particularly when she’s displaying challenging behaviour e.g. meltdowns
  §   Must like friendly dogs
  §   Driver with own car, preferable but not essential
  §   A good understanding of autism and learning disabilities would be an advantage
  §   DBS checked

What you can expect to receive:

We are a very easy going family. We will provide full assistance at the beginning of your employment to show you where everything is and train you on the job.

Hours of work:

Mon – Weds – 15:00-18:00

Some weeks additional hours may be available but not expected. 

Rate of pay:

£11.30 per hour
