We are looking for a confident, outgoing and friendly people to provide support to a 21-year-old young man. He is very sociable, loves to be out and about and enjoys the company of others.  The purpose of your role will be to enable his independence, allow him to take part in activities that he enjoys and support him to meet new people and have new experiences.  You should ideally have experience of supporting people with learning disabilities and have some knowledge of how to deal with various difficult situations, you should be compassionate and be able to explain why he may not be able to do something rather than just saying ‘no’.   

This young man has a learning disability and developmental delay. You will get to know his way of communicating, his personality and his likes and dislikes once you get to know him.   You will support with going to the shops, going to visit friends and family and taking part in various activities such as football and swimming. 

Each day will be different depending on what he wants to do on that day so you should be prepared to be flexible.  There is some personal care involved in this role which will include support with toileting and supporting with his personal hygiene and cleanliness. There will also be some applying of creams which will be discussed further in interview. 

There will also be some domestic support required around prompting to keep his home clean and tidy. 

We would also like our PA to be able to suggest things to do out in the community so you should be willing to be proactive in finding various activities to take part in. 

We would prefer you to be a car driver with your own transport, however this isn’t essential as public transport can be used. Expenses will be met by your employer. 

Hours -  48 hours per week broken down into day shifts and night shifts. Day times will be 3pm-10pm and nights 10pm – 8am  Days to be covered are Sundays, Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays.   

MAIN DUTIES
 
·       Support with enabling independence.
·       Assist with taking part in activities and pursue hobbies and interests.
·       Ensure safety when out and about.
·       Support with some personal care when required.
·       Domestic support to ensure his home is tidy.   

Rate of pay
 £13.74 per hour for day hours £12.21 per hour for sleeping nights. Holidays are 5.6 weeks per year, pro-rata.   
 
Person Specification
 Successful applicants must:  
·       Ideally have experience working as a support worker with children or adults, especially with learning disabilities
·       Have a positive understanding towards people with disabilities.
·       Have a genuine interest in working within social care.
·       Have a high degree of initiative.
·       Be punctual and reliable.
·       Be flexible.
·       Have a happy, positive and caring nature.
·       Respect confidentiality.
