Personal Care Assistant for a young woman 35 hr/wk@ £13.09/hr in Haltwhistle - Haltwhistle - NE49

We are looking for a full-time support worker for a young lady in the Haltwhistle area with a diagnosis of Global Development Delay. She requires a team of carers/support workers to enable her to maintain her independence and support to continue her hobbies and interests.  

This lady lives in an independent living setting with support from family and a team of support workers. She also attends a day centre 4 days per week 9am-4pm, where she enjoys activities such as cooking, art and music and learning new skills. This means that you should be able to provide support outside of these times. 

A big part of your role will be to support to maintain independence. You will assist with going out into the community, going to the gym, swimming, cinema, out for lunch and being around people in social settings. You will also support to take part in new activities. 

As this young lady cannot be left unsupervised you must ensure you must be proactive in making sure she is always safe and in sight. 

To be a good fit for this role you will need to be confident and patient, happy with doing repeated tasks, have experience of working with people with disabilities on a one-to-one basis and be looking to commit to this role long term. 

Other duties will include dealing with putting the staff rota together, dealing with staff absence and holidays. Liaising with payroll and the employer where needed and other general admin tasks to support the employer. 

This is a busy, hands on and varied role and you will learn most of the role on the job by working with us as a family and the other support workers.

Hours of work:
35hrs per week to be covered as part of a staff team -
·        Nonday centre days - 3.30pm until 7 pm – support with personal care, support with cooking and cleaning as required, assist with bedtime routine from 8pm this includes shower and prompting to wash and dry thoroughly, bedtime story and then to bed. 
·        Other days and hours to be worked evenings and weekends to support with the above alongside support to access the community to maintain and encourage independence and to pursue hobbies and interests.

Rates of Pay:
£13.09 per waking hour                                               

Location: Haltwhistle area

Main Duties:
Client requires full support and supervision in all daily living activities including support and prompting around personal care, toileting, showering, sequencing, and getting dressed.

Support with preparing meals and drinks and supervision whilst eating and drinking.

Prompting and administering medication

Support to access the community and places of interest.

Further Information:  An Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service Certificate (DBS) will have to be obtained for the successful candidate (at employer’s expense).


Training: Where it is required, such as in Health and Safety matters, practical training and guidance will be arranged and the care worker will be expected to attend.
