Personal Assistant/Enabler
Morpeth, Northumberland

to provide support with a teenager who has a psychical and learning disabilities because of a brain injury

Main Duties:

Support is required to enable this teenager to explore and access appropriate community and leisure activities of interest. Support is needed to plan and organize leisure time.
Teenager is tech savvy with hopes to pursue interests in audio/visual technology and will gradually need support to work.
Support to remain as independently as possible and interact with people of a similar age
Support with personal care, manual handling, a wheelchair is always in use. Standing transfers and hoisting are required as part of this role. The use of varied equipment is required, full training will be given
PEG feeding is required as part of this role and full training will be provided
Communication – can make needs known given time and encouragement
A driving license is required for transport in a wheelchair vehicle

Hours

Minimum 8 hours per week to be used flexibly over the week and arranged around leisure and social activities/outings, some weekend support will be required.

Rates of pay

£13.09 per hour. Holiday entitlement is 5.6 weeks per year pro-rata.

Out-of-pocket expenses will be paid by the employer, for example mileage, drinks and snacks and leisure costs.

The successful applicant must:

Have experience and a positive understanding about young people who have disabilities
Have a genuine interest in working with complex needs
Have a high degree of initiative
Be flexible
Have a happy, positive, and caring nature
Respect confidentiality

Applicants must hold a full and clean driving license and be insured for business use.
The successful candidate will require an Enhanced Certificate of Disclosure (DBS), cost to be met by Northumberland County Council.
