My name is Deb and I am living with Motor Neurone Disease (MND). I have numerous complex health needs associated with MND and now require daily care. I am looking for a further two or three committed and enthusiastic Personal Assistants to form a small team to support me to get the most out of my day to day life. Despite the challenges of MND I remain upbeat and positive and I am looking forward to sharing lots of humour and fun along the way with you.
We are a busy and active household so you should be comfortable around my family including three young adult sons and our Labrador dog.
Ideal candidates will have a positive outlook on life, a good attitude to work and good understanding (or a willingness to learn) about MND.
A non smoker, with full driving license and confidence to drive an adapted van would be ideal.
As an extremely clinically vulnerable person candidates should be fully covid vaccinated or willing to undertake vaccination.
Previous experience is preferred but not a requirement. If you can empower, encourage and respect my right to make my own decisions about how I want to be cared for and are willing to learn new skills, I’d like to hear from you!
DUTIES TO INCLUDE:
● Personal care including assistance with showering, toileting, dressing etc.
● Tracheostomy care.
● Administering medicines and nutrition through PEG tube.
● Ensuring all equipment is to hand and maintained ready for use.
● Stocktaking and ordering equipment.
● Assist with physio exercises.
● Enabling me to socialise within the home and travelling locally.
● Some light household duties.
● Plus any other reasonable requests which will be informed by the developing nature of MND
CORE TIMES:
From 4- 11 hours per week over a two week rota comprising;
20.00 to 22.00 evenings which includes both week days and weekends and 08.00 to 12.00 midday weekends only.
Flexible working within an agreed 14 day rota.
Additional hours for family respite and holiday cover for other PAs including weekday mornings and sleeping nights.
Potential opportunity for increased hours.
SUPERVISION:
My PAs will be directed by and accountable to me, in all aspects of their role. They always respect my independence, and ask rather than assume what assistance I require. A full induction and training will be given.
Successful applicants will be subject to an enhanced DBScheck.
