Personal Care Assistant for a teenage boy P/T@ £13.09/hr in Morpeth - FTE - £25.5k - Morpeth - NE61

A young man in the Morpeth area is looking to recruit an enabler to support him accessing his local community and further afield. The young man has a diagnosis of Autism and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and is non-verbal. 

The family are looking for someone who understands that it will be necessary to take a person-centered approach to all activities this young man chooses to engage in. This will require a special set of skills as this young man can get anxious and is very vulnerable, therefore gaining his trust and building a positive relationship is a priority. 

The young man enjoys getting out and about accessing his local community. As his enabler, you will play an important role in creating a safe and supportive environment that promotes his social and emotional development.  Family are looking for someone who possesses excellent communication and problem-solving skills, as well as the ability to adapt to the unique needs of this young man. 

Hours of work: 4hr a week (52 weeks) and an additional 4hrs during all school holidays (13 weeks)

Main Duties:
Acting as a 'support buddy', encouraging his interests which include the above and support around the young man’s personal care needs if and when required. A plan will need to be adhered to and developed by the support buddy. Positive reinforcement is a must as although the young man needs to be out in the community, he will need a great deal of encouragement and patience to encourage this. He will require someone 4 hrs a week and an additional 4hrs during all school holidays, he will initially need to be seen in the home setting first so he can gain confidence in developing a relationship.

Excellent communication skills, both talking and listening        
Ability to both take instructions and use own initiative. 
Experience in health & social care desirable – awareness in autism and ADHD 
Flexibility and Respecting confidentiality is a must 
   
Car driver preferred  

The role requires close personal contact with an individual who is extremely vulnerable to the risk of infection and disease transmission. Preference may be given to applicants who have been fully vaccinated against Covid-19. Careful consideration will be given to applicants who can show the vaccination is not suitable for them on reasonable grounds.  

Further Information: 
An Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service Certificate (DBS) will have to be obtained for the successful candidate (at employer’s expense).
 
Training: Where it is required, such as in Health and Safety matters, practical training and guidance will be arranged, and the care worker will be expected to attend. This will include moving and handling, medication awareness and additional training specific to the client.
