The Gentleman would like to enrol a dedicated and compassionate personal support worker to support him in his own home in the Morpeth area, support is required 5 days a week across morning, lunch and tea-time calls to support him in and around his own home and in his local community.
The successful candidates will take a person-centered approach to care, supporting the client’s independence, well-being, and choices, while providing essential personal, social, and domestic care, and have a like for dogs. This Gentleman is a full-time wheelchair user and likes to get out and about in his community, he enjoys lots of things and generally likes to keep himself as fit and as active as possible by attending the gym, swimming, going for walks, he enjoys going to museums and has an interest in local history. But his passion is cars, and music attends the car groups and meets and loves music from the 70’s.80’s and 90’s era.
Main Duties: To support this gentleman around his complex and unpredictable health and mobility needs by supporting him with housekeeping, laundry tasks, to make and attend all appointments, getting in/out of bed, stoma catheter care, toileting and showering, meal preparation, and administer medication as well as socialising by taking a person-centred approach while encouraging him to engage in any activities or interests this gentleman chooses. The role requires close personal contact with an individual who is extremely vulnerable to the risk of infection and disease transmission. And has severe, and life-threatening allergies, to multiple medications and foods. Care and consideration should be taken by all people supporting to reduce the risks of adverse reactions Preference may be given to applicants who have been fully vaccinated against Covid-19. Careful consideration will be given to applicants who can show the vaccination is not suitable for them on reasonable grounds.
Personal specification:
- Car driver is essential.
- Must be okay around dogs
- Calm, patient, fun, honest and reliable, and with a caring nature.
- Punctual, trustworthy and able to respect confidentiality.
- Have a happy positive outlook and an outgoing personality
- Ability to both take instructions and use own initiative.
- Experience in health & social care desirable – awareness of learning disabilities, autism and mental health needs.
Further Information: An Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service Certificate (DBS) will have to be obtained for the successful candidate (at employer’s expense).
Training: Where it is required, such as in Health and Safety matters, practical training and guidance will be arranged, and the personal support workers will be expected to attend. This will include safeguarding Adults/children’s, moving and handling, medication awareness and any additional training specific to the client.
