Personal Assistant/Support Worker in Twerton, Bath

Required for 16-year-old girl with Complex Learning Needs and Autism, who enjoys the outdoors, to access the community and support with activities. 

Hours will be approx. 11 hours per week outside college hours and flexible hours during college term holidays. Hours and times to be negotiated with P.A. 

Rate of pay £10.93 per hour.

The ideal candidate will be physically resilient, but have a calm but firm manner to be able to safeguard from dangers, when in the community. Promoting safety in the community and danger awareness is really important.

Ideally the PA will have experience and understanding (this can be personal or professional). Training will be provided – initially you will be working alongside another PA. Immediate start for the right candidate. References and Current Enhanced DBS check will be required.

Car driver required, with a full clean UK driving licence. Own vehicle not necessary.

General:
Personal Assistant/Support Worker 
Required for 16-year-old girl with Complex Learning Needs and Autism, who enjoys the outdoors, and is currently attending a college. 
The PA will support to access the community and with activities. 
 
Hours will be approx. 11 hours per week outside college hours and flexible hours during college term holidays. Hours and times to be negotiated with PA and family.
Working on Tuesday is currently not needed.  
Rate of pay £10.93 per hour.
 
Tasks include:
 
The ideal candidate will be physically resilient, but have a calm but firm manner to be able to safeguard from dangers, when in the community. Promoting safety in the community and danger awareness is really important. 
Ideally the PA will have experience and understanding (this can be personal or professional). 
One does not have to be a strong person physically to do the job, but general good health and fitness are considered to be an advantage. Training will be provided – initially you will be working alongside another PA or the girl’s mother (the employer). 
Immediate start for the right candidate. References and Current Enhanced DBS check will be required.
Car driver required, with a full clean UK driving licence. Own vehicle not necessary. 
 
Note:  All needs will vary from shift to shift and duties will alter accordingly.
 
 
 
 
Other Responsibilities:   
 
·         Punctuality: Arrive at the scheduled time, ready to start work.  Let me know if you are going to be more than 10 minutes late.
 
·         Confidentiality:  I will need you to respect my privacy.  Many problems can arise from casual conversation about the care and assistance that you give. Maintain a professional approach at all times.
 
·         Good Attitude: appreciate the strains and stresses involved for me and the effect this can have on the acceptance of your help. You should respect the possessions and equipment in my home.  Use of the telephone, heating, television, radio etc. are at my discretion.
 
·         Training: Training will be available in certain key areas.  You should be prepared to attend any relevant training sessions, read any training literature provided and follow procedures.


 
Personal Specification 
 
It is the job of the Personal Assistant to assist in most areas of personal care and social support, and to act as a confidential escort, assistant and companion in the person’s social and day-to-day activities.  By providing help at the right time the disabled person is enabled to lead an individual and independent lifestyle in the community.
 
The disabled person does have awareness and some communication abilities, but non-verbal. The Personal Assistant’s role is to help her develop by engaging with her and building an understanding together.
 
Note: - All needs will vary from day to day and duties will alter accordingly, so the Personal Assistant needs to be able to be flexible with his/her time.
