Job Type: Holiday Support Worker and possibility for weekend shifts (Flexible Hours).
 
About the Child:  
Our fantastic client is a fun-loving and energetic child who thrives on being busy! He is non-verbal and an emerging Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) user, utilising Makaton to express his needs and desires. We are looking for someone who can embrace his high energy and engage him through physical activities, while also providing calming sensory experiences.

Facilitate community access and participation in engaging activities.
Support the child in using Makaton to communicate his needs effectively.
Collaborate with the family to create a fun, safe, and stimulating environment.
Encourage physical activities to harness his energy, alongside soothing sensory play.
Foster a trusting and caring relationship to help him thrive.
 
What We’re Looking For:
A nurturing and enthusiastic individual who enjoys working with children, especially those with additional needs.
Experience or knowledge of AAC and Makaton communication methods would be advantageous.
Experience of positive behaviour support would be advantageous
 A flexible approach and willingness to adapt activities based on the child’s moods and preferences.
A commitment to promoting a fun and safe environment.
Patience, creativity, and the ability to inspire and motivate.
Interest in horses and cars would be a bonus!
 
Hourly rate: £16.47 for self employed PA.
 
Role Overview:
Join us in supporting a bright and spirited 12-year-old boy with complex cerebral palsy, who is determined to lead a fulfilling life. Your role will be to help nurture his social, physical, psychological, and emotional needs in partnership with his family, case manager, and multidisciplinary team (MDT). Together, we will enable him to participate in a variety of meaningful activities and develop his independence.
 
Key Responsibilities:
Daily Support: Assist the client in daily living activities while promoting autonomy and choice. Help him engage in age-appropriate play and community activities.
Collaboration: Work alongside the MDT and family to implement and evaluate support strategies tailored to the client’s needs.
Documentation: Maintain clear records of care and send them electronically after each shift. 
Behavioural Support: Use positive behavioural management techniques and implement goals-based activities under guidance from therapists.
Therapy Assistance: Support the client with therapeutic activities and motivate him to participate.
Transport: (If applicable) Drive the client for outings and appointments, ensuring safety at all times.
Planning Outings: Organise trips while considering access requirements and conducting risk assessments.
 
Personal Care:
Help the client mobilise safely and support with personal care while respecting his dignity.
 
Daily Activities & Rehabilitation:
Facilitate daily structured activities, encouraging participation using motivational techniques.
Attend and assist during therapy sessions as directed by relevant therapists.

Equipment Management:
Ensure that the client’s Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) device is charged and updated daily.

Ad Hoc Duties:
Respond promptly to emergencies and maintain open communication with the client and their family.
Contribute to the care planning process and take an active role in the client’s care routine.
 
Training & Development:
Participate in training and supervision to develop skills and work towards competencies as directed by professionals.
Engage in annual performance reviews, setting personal objectives and identifying training needs.
 
Confidentiality and Respect:
Maintain confidentiality regarding all aspects of the client’s care and information as per the Data Protection Act.
 
Health and Safety:
Adhere to health and safety policies, reporting any incidents or concerns promptly.

Hours:
This role will require 9 hours per week during term time and 18 hours per week during half-term periods.
 
The term-time schedule will operate on a two-week rota:
Week 1 (Term Time):
- Monday: 17:00 - 20:00
- Saturday: 09:00 - 15:00
 
Week 2 (Term Time):
- Monday: 17:00 - 20:00
- Thursday: 17:00 - 20:00
- The third day is flexible, also from 17:00 - 20:00.
 
During half-term periods, the 18 hours per week will be worked flexibly across the days.
 
Additional Information:
An Enhanced DBS Check with the Children’s Barred List is mandatory, but a prior conviction or caution may not automatically disqualify you from employment.
