JOB DESCRIPTION
Job title: Support Worker
Hourly Rate: £12.40
Hours:
4 hours per week Sat or Sun (term-time)
Additional 4 hours per week (school holidays)
Reports to: Parents
Job Purpose
To provide opportunities of play and learning for our 15 year old son who has a diagnosis of Down Syndrome and associated learning delays and is Autistic. He has a good sense of humour and he especially loves trips to the cinema and drawing in cafes.
His speech is delayed so he communicates with a mixture of Makaton signs, visual resources and speech.
The job would give him opportunities to enjoy his favourite activities both in and away from the home.
Main Duties:
v Communicate and support his time, activities and communication
v Accompany him in the local and his favourite places
v Interact with him using suitable means and methods, such as play and drawing, to make him happy and comfortable
Essentials
v Calm and confident demeanour
v Resilience; managing anxiety and some challenging behaviours
v Receive training; including Makaton, Down Syndrome and Autism
v Show initiative and flexibility
v Be sensitive to his needs and feelings
v Communicate well with family and provide feedback to parents
v Attend work punctually and consistently
v Maintain confidentiality at all times
v Experience or desire working with children with additional needs
v Use of own car would be favourable.
Skills
· To be able to work unsupervised
· Good communication and listening skills
· Show initiative
· To be able to build self-esteem while ensuring a safe and warm atmosphere/ambiance
· An interest in art and craft
Motivation

Other
To hold a current and satisfactory enhanced DBS check or be willing to complete one.
