Maternity cover for one to one in school support - DURHAM - DH7

Job Reference (e85fd770)

Required for Maternity Cover from September 2024

The role is temporary to staff maternity cover full time, but has the possible option of some permanent hours following the maternity cover.

The Role....

This rewarding role involves working closely with our 8-year-old at school to ensure his medical safety.

Duties and requirements

He would like someone who can help with his personal care, help him to learn and have fun and to keep him medically safe.

He uses an ipad and Proloquo as his communication since he is non-verbal. He is a clever little boy who just needs someone to help him be heard.  He loves to climb, tear paper, listen to music and dance. He is very kind and gentle.

A full, clean driving licence is essential due to the semi-rural location and applicants will require their own transport for commuting to work, although there is a bus terminus a short distance from the workplace.

An NVQ Level 2 in Health & Social Care and/or experience in working with children who have complex disabilities and health needs is desirable, although this could be negotiable for the right candidate.

Due to the child’s respiratory health needs, a non-smoker is preferred.

Daily work
will be around the school and out in the community.

The hours of work will be days but are not limited to Monday-Friday 08:15 – 15:30 (Term Time Only).  Some flexibility with working times/number of hours may be required to cover sickness and staff holidays upon request. We are currently looking to cover a total of upto 48.75 hours per week, over 5 days Monday to Friday.

Successful candidates will be very reliable, will be required to be able to work both independently as well as part of a team working closely with other carers and parents, possess good time keeping skills and initiative, as well as being fit enough to perform tasks that involve moving and handling, personal and medical care.

Successful candidates must be willing to undertake advanced training in tracheostomy and gastrostomy care, as well as any other training relevant to the role of a PA.

An enhanced DBS disclosure and carer insurance is required, this will be provided by and the expense met by employer.

All training is provided by the NHS community nursing team and therefore would be ideal for anyone with interest or experience in the care sector, health, or education sector.
