Female Personal Assistant for spinal injured male £11.50 ph + sleepover £72.94 pn - WAKEFIELD - WF2

Job Reference (168fe51a)

Personal statement

I am an active person who enjoys life to the full, striving for independence in all that I do... regardless of a C5/6 spinal cord injury resulting in complete paralysis below the shoulders and partial paralysis of my arms, no hand or finger dexterity. Consequently, I am wheelchair bound and require assistance with all aspects of personal care as well as domestic chores. At present, I have three lovely Personal Assistants providing one-to-one support, and I am now looking for someone new to join my small friendly team.

The role of personal assistant would suit someone energetic and outgoing to help support me living independently, including all aspects of daily life, as well as activities such as daily keep fit, wheelchair rugby, cycling, swimming, art projects, gardening, woodwork and craft projects, socialising, the occasional night out and trips away.

Person specification

I need someone dependable, honest, hardworking with good work ethics, committed to providing the best care possible and have a genuine interest in doing so to help maximise my independence.

Some experience of providing care is preferred, but not essential. Regardless of experience, you must be willing to learn how to do the job under my direction and follow advice from experienced PA’s. As you progress, you will be expected to work using your own initiative. Good general health is important to be able to handle the physical tasks of manual handling, pushing, bending, and lifting as detailed in the job description.

A high standard of hygiene and good work ethics is expected from all Personal Assistants along with a degree of flexibility to allow for spontaneity. Due to the close nature of the work and intimate tasks, it is imperative the Personal Assistant understands the responsibilities the position holds, while observing privacy and confidentiality. A good sense of humor is important and the ability to recognise personal frustrations of impairment are not necessarily directed at others.

Training

You will be guided through tasks listed in the job description which can be learned through me and personal assistants working together. The position is subject to a successful 3-month probationary period, by the end of which you should be competent in fulfilling the requirements of your job role. A DBS check will also be required along with at least one reference.

Times Required

Evening start: 18:00pm - 10:00am the following day [9 working hours plus 7-hour Sleepover @ £72.94pn x 2 = £351.88 per week]. Times may vary slightly to accommodate my needs and will be negotiated with the personal assistant at the earliest possible time. You willl be expected to cover holiday leave and absence.

Personal Assistant Duties

This position involves some of the following tasks listed, a full job description is available upon request. As my needs vary, it is important you are flexible about what the work involves and willing to undertake any other reasonable request.

I look forward to hearing from you.
