Care Assistant for a young adult P/T@ £13.09/hr in Choppington - FTE - £25.5k - Choppington - NE62

An young man in the Choppington area is looking to recruit an enabler to support him accessing his local community, while promoting his independence and communication skills. The young man has a diagnosis of ASD.

The family are looking for a carer who understands that it will be necessary to take a person-centred approach to all activities this young adult chooses to engage in This will require a special set of skills as this young adult can be very vulnerable, and gets very anxious, therefore gaining his trust is a priority through structured “getting to know you” visits.

The young adult loves 'getting out and about accessing his local community, looking in shops and accessing public transport. He has a particular interest in buses, and bus spotting. He also enjoys music, Minecraft, YouTube, bus videos, pets – especially cats.  Visits to a “cat café” would be of particular interest.

Hours of work: 4hr a week - Day and time to be discussed at interview.

Rates of Pay: £13.09 per hour.  

Mileage paid: To be discussed at interview.                                                        

Location: Choppington area

Main Duties: Acting as a 'support buddy', encouraging his interests which include the above 

A plan will need to be adhered to and developed by the support buddy. Positive reinforcement is a must as although the young man needs to be out in the community, he will need a great deal of encouragement and patience to encourage this. 

He will require someone for a total of 4 hours a week, he will initially need to be seen in the home so he can gain confidence in developing a relationship. 

The role requires close personal contact with an individual who is extremely vulnerable to the risk of infection and disease transmission. Preference may be given to applicants who have been fully vaccinated against Covid-19. Careful consideration will be given to applicants who can show the vaccination is not suitable for them on reasonable grounds.

Personal specification:
Car driver preferred.
Calm, patient and understanding.
Honest, reliable and with a caring nature.
Punctual, trustworthy and Respect confidentiality.
Have a happy positive caring nature. 
Have an outgoing personality.
Ability to both take instructions and use own initiative. 
Experience in health & social care desirable – awareness in autism and mental health needs
Respect confidentiality is a must.    

Further Information:  An Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service Certificate (DBS) will have to be obtained for the successful candidate (at employer’s expense).
 
Training: Where it is required, such as in Health and Safety matters, practical training and guidance will be arranged, and the care worker will be expected to attend. This will include moving and handling, medication awareness and additional training specific to the client.
