Care Assistant for a person F/T or P/T @ £12.66/hr in South Liverpool - FTE - £24.7k - Liverpool - L18
Job Reference (a7c242db)
A Personal Care Assistant (ideally a male) is required for a 39-year-old who is a physically disabled wheelchair user who lives with his family in the South Liverpool area.
Hours of work can either be full time or part time, and there is some flexibility attached to this that can be discussed at interview.
Hourly rate of pay is £12.66.
This role will include aspects of personal care, social and employment-based activities.
The ideal candidate will need to be able to support me in these areas and integrate seamlessly into both my family, work, social life, as well as supporting me with my day-to-day needs and my desire to live an active and fulfilling life, just like everybody else.
Some of these personal care activities and needs will include the following:
- Help with dressing, transfers to and from my wheelchair using a hoist, washing (including getting a bath when desired), shaving, grooming and assisting me to go to the toilet when needed.
- Assistance during the night with turning over as I wake during the night a few times to change position.
- Assistance with meals including cooking and eating (I am not able to eat unassisted, so I need somebody to help me eat my meals with a knife and fork and cutting up food).
- Assistance with domestic activities such as preparing my washing, getting my clothes ready for the day, tidying the house and washing up around the kitchen, together with any other activities that I need assistance with that I am unable to do myself.
- Accompanying me on holidays, short breaks (fares and accommodation supported), social activities and working activities. Some of these activities may require travel and time spent away from home on occasions.
The suitable candidate will have the following qualities:
- Have a positive, enthusiastic, and can-do attitude to both life and their daily work as the person will need to act as both a supporter and enabler for me to live an active, fulfilling and motivated life without barriers.
- Hold a clean full UK driving licence and be able to drive my car in case I want to do any leisure activities, for example attending sporting events, excursions, having holidays or required travel for working activities across the country. The person must also be comfortable with motorway driving, as well as being able to drive in both daylight and darkness hours.
- Be able to occupy and busy themselves at times with their own personal interests or household duties whenever I need to work or complete administration tasks throughout the day without distraction.
- Be flexible in working patterns and able to work in blocks during the week and weekends as part of a rota, on occasions when I want to go away, or to cover any unforeseen staff sickness. I consider this flexibility to be a two-way process, and this can be discussed at interview.
- Have a good ability and willingness to learn, familiarise and memorise the daily patterns of movements, adjustments, and routines, so that this becomes an instinctive and intuitive process.
- Exhibit patience on occasions when I am getting dressed or during times throughout the day whenever I may require any subtle adjustments to my clothes or repositioning in my wheelchair.
- Display a level of general fitness, stamina, and an ability to multitask and think on feet because sometimes my days can be fast paced whenever I have things on.
- Be able to mix comfortably with both my friends, family, and work contacts as and when required, fitting in seamlessly with my social circle.
- Display a level of technical acumen and be able to help with setting up and positioning my IT equipment, or assistance with my phone when out and about.
- Provide me with lifts to destinations when required as on occasions I go out independently with my friends without a personal assistant.
- Be trustworthy, laid back and discreet when required.
- Be capable of completing simple clerical tasks such as timely recording of their hours worked and providing support to me with any administration tasks as required.
Finding suitable personal assistants is challenging for me so please only apply if you have a genuine interest in this job.
The actual pattern of hours and be discussed at interview as I try to match flexibly what I need with the lives and circumstances of my personal assistants, and I am always happy to work on a two-way basis in this area.
I consider this role to be a fulfilling, interesting and pleasant job to somebody with the right mindset and qualities.
Previous experience is not essential as full training can be provided, and I also consider attitude, enthusiasm and willingness to learn as the most important qualities for this role.
