PA required for 26year old young adult male.
Do you want to make a difference to a young person with autism? Would you enjoy supporting them in activities outside in the community one day a week for six hours.
 I am 26years old and enjoy going out and visiting places like heritage railways York Railway Museum Bradford Media Museum and enjoy train travel. I have autism which is a challenge but I do try to cope. I do not need personal care but you need to be aware of my physical problems and I use a wheelchair when out in the community. I can be fun to be with and would like the opportunity to try new activities.

Requirements for Role
Age 18 +
Experience of working with people with autism is desirable but not essential.
Common sense and good communication skills.
Hours 
6 per week Normally week days, but could be weekends on occasions.


To work with N who has autism and other physical disabilities. N needs assistance and supervision to access activities in the community and to access transport. N is a part time wheelchair user which means when he is out in the community he will need to be pushed in his chair. The wheelchair has a motorised wheel device to help with pushing up inclines. No personal care is needed but awareness of his problem is important. On rare occasions N’s autism can cause him to make very nasty and hurtful remarks to carers.

We ideally need a person who has knowledge of autism but is not essential,  who can provide the level of assistance that N requires under our direction. The personal assistant must be reliable, punctual, honest, caring and respectful.

The person we employ will have an understanding of the need for confidentiality in all areas of work including total respect for our privacy.

The personal assistant must supervise him at all times and always be aware of his vulnerability and the difficulties Autism can present.

SUPERVISION
The personal assistant will be directed by and be accountable to us in all aspects of their work. We expect the PA to use their own initiative and get on with the job, but to check anything out with us if needed. We would like the PA to talk through with us any situations they feel may arise while attending a particular event or activity. 

MAIN DUTIES
The PA will be required to do the following tasks and may be asked to carry out other tasks of a similar nature.

Accompany him to activities in the community.
Suggest activities.
Push him in the wheelchair (has power assist)
Be a companion 
Be mindful of his safety
Be aware of the difficulties that Autism can cause to a persons behaviour
