2x PAs for a young man (27) P/T@ £13.15/hr in Worcester park - FTE - £25.6k - WORCESTER PARK - KT4
Job Reference (b5f3d882)
I am a 27-year-old man who lives with Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD), a progressive neuromuscular condition. I have been using a powered wheelchair since 2015. I am a determined and stubborn individual (in a good way!) who tries to make the most of life.
I studied Neuroscience at the University of Nottingham between 2015-2018 and MSc Science Communication at the University of Sheffield between 2018-2019. I worked in healthcare communications for 18 months, and I’m now doing a part-time 2-year distance learning MSc course in Sustainable Development at SOAS. I have also done work with different charities supporting people with DMD including the Pathfinders Neuromuscular Alliance. I currently live at home.
I have a keen interest in healthcare, science and being outdoors. Music is one of my passions, and at one point, I wanted to be a sound engineer/producer. I have a varied taste in music, DJing and making music when I have time! I am interested in watching sports, films, the outdoors/walking, nature, gardening, design, reading, sailing, museum/exhibitions, faith-related activities and meditation. It would be great to have a PA who shares these interests.
I am a sociable person who enjoys going out, but I do enjoy my own space. My faith is very important to me (I am a Christian) so I am looking for a PA who respects or shares my beliefs.
I am looking for 2 PA’s who can cover 51 hours a week @£13.15 per/hr, up to a maximum of 36 hours and minimum of 15 hours with flexibility. I need someone who can support me to live an independent life whilst living at home. I need help with daily tasks, personal care (hoisting, toileting, showering/washing, dressing, daily stretching, weekly swimming/hydrotherapy etc.), domestic tasks (meal + drink prep, maintaining a clean and tidy environment, cleaning ventilator, hoovering, ironing, making bed, cleaning room, wheelchair, shower seat etc.) socialising/going out (attending events, packing bag etc.), working/study from home and general support.
I am unable to provide sponsorship for Visa.
Job specification
I am a 27-year-old man who lives with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD) and am seeking a PA who can support me in living an independent and ‘normal’ life whilst living at home, helping to reduce the anxieties, stress and frustrations that DMD creates. I require support with daily tasks, personal care, domestic tasks, social/going out and general support.

I require support with domestic tasks (I like to be clean and tidy!), cleaning my chair, shopping and tasks involved in independently maintaining a household. I require a PA who can support me with cooking and food preparation (although I know how to cook myself and can provide instructions). Having a PA who has cooking skills and enjoys cooking healthy food is essential. I like my food!
I need help picking up and moving heavy objects/items as required and when going out, packing and unpacking my bag.
I need help with a daily physiotherapy/stretching regime, standing wheelchair, and weekly hydrotherapy. I need somebody who enjoys exercise and sports and who is happy to support me with physiotherapy/stretching. I also require support when I go sailing (you don’t have to get in the boat! - The season for this is between April and September/October).
Driving (automatic) is essential for this role. You must have a full UK or EU driving licence. I have a Motability vehicle that you may be able to drive for trips/activities on occasion. However, I can drive from my powered wheelchair for some journeys (I can drive for short journeys - up to one hour).
Previous experience in manual handling is necessary. However, I am confident in being able to train you in how I like to be supported/assisted.
Please be aware that the job specification may change over time as my condition progresses.
Please ask for more details for my detailed job description, specification and care plan.
