Support Worker for a young lady in Dereham, 12 hrs p/w, £11.55 p/h, £12.50 p/h weekends - NORWICH - NR9

Job Reference (9df9bd50)

Job Purpose:
A is 18 years of age and lives at home with her family, she attends College where she studies Art and Design.  A experienced a significant acquired brain injury at the time of her birth.  As a result, she has dystonic quadriplegic cerebral palsy along with dysarthria.  For her, this means that she is not able to use her hands, arms or legs effectively (except for being able to operate her electric wheelchair) and finds it very difficult to communicate verbally.  She also experiences involuntary movements of her trunk, neck and head.  She likes to wear fashionable clothes and accessories and likes to have her hair, nails, and makeup done appropriately for her age and the activity.  A has a wheelchair adapted vehicle (WAV) and will require her support workers to assist her in and out of it and to drive her to her chosen activity. A can drive her electric wheelchair independently but she may require support with crossing the road, uneven pavements and other surfaces, navigating doorways and accessing buildings, etc.  She may also require support when she is physically tired or if something unexpected happens which she needs support to manage. A has difficulty in communicating verbally.  Her speech can be very unclear but this is something she will work with you with as she likes to speak and have conversations.  A can say yes or no.  To verbalise A currently uses her iPad to write what she wishes to say, however, she is considering using augmentative communication in the near future.

Some words from A: -
'I like listening to music especially musicals. I like singing dancing and acting. I love going to the theatre. My favourite shows and movies to watch are also musicals. I like going out with my friends for example going shopping going to the cinema and going bowling.'
