I am a fun loving, friendly 21-year-old who enjoys getting out and about and engaging in activities, as well as hanging out with friends and chilling at home. I have complex cerebral palsy and I am non-verbal, but I don’t let that stop me living my life to the full.
I am just coming to the end of a 3-year independent living course at National Star College and I’m all set to transition into a new home with my good friend Ian at the end July / beginning August. It is exciting as we have a brand-new adapted bungalow being built, which is nearly ready. I have my own ways of communicating and an ‘eye gaze’ communication aid, which I use to speak. I am working on using head switches to drive my power chair. There is lots to learn about me but don’t worry you will get some great training!
You will work within my new home and the local community, in a person-centred support worker role. You will be part of my small team and also work alongside my friend’s PA team.
You will enable me to lead as fulfilling and meaningful a life as possible, maximising my independence, psychological well-being and helping to keep me safe. You will support me with my activities of daily living, accessing leisure and learning activities, attending appointments and maintaining my personal relationships.
You will be someone who is passionate about delivering a high standard of person-centred care, embraces opportunities to learn new skills, able to work both in a team and independently. Full training and support will be provided.
You will need:
- Experience of support / care work.
- Confidence using IT / computers.
- A full driving license.
