He is a bubbly, enthusiastic and affectionate boy who is a pleasure to work with. He is 14 years old and has a learning disability and ADHD. He has food allergies and requires an Epipen - training is provided in how to administer this.
 
The role involves providing respite to the parents and increasing his confidence and independence in the community. This includes:
●     Going on local day trips, e.g. National Railway Museum, Yorkshire Sculpture Park, Yorkshire Air Museum, Doncaster Dome etc
●     Going to the cinema/ theatre – he loves live shows!
●     Taking him to his regular recreational activities, e.g. swimming lesson, horse-riding
●      
These activities have been modified due to Covid-19 (i.e. mainly outdoor activities). A non smoker is essential and car owner ESSENTIAL for this role, expenses paid. He lives in North Leeds (LS8).
 
He is allocated 6 hours a week of direct payments for a PA, which is facilitated through Leeds Centre for Integrated Living (Leeds CIL). References and a DBS (organised and paid for by Leeds CIL) will be required. Working hours are flexible mainly weekends and school holidays, with some work in the evenings when required. 
Rate of pay: £10 p/h.
 
What skills/ characteristics are required for the role?
 
●     Reliable and committed to minimum of 18 months employment
●     Experience of working with children, SEND experience desirable 
●      Being flexible and using your initiative
●     Being sensitive to his needs and feelings
●     Good communication skills - with child, his family and other professionals in his life
●     To work independently and remain calm under pressure
●     To ensure he is safe and supervised at all times
 
His current PA who has recently graduated said “It is an ideal and enjoyable job to have alongside your degree. I am happy to meet with anyone who is interested to do some handover sessions with him".
