Alfie is a year 10 boy (aged 14) and has duchenne muscular dystrophy. This means his muscles are wasting and he's getting progressively weaker. He is fully reliant on his powered wheelchair and needs to be hoisted to change positions (to the bed, toilet, comfy chair). He therefore need help 24/7. We have always helped him but he would now like to be a bit more independent.
He loves sport – particularly watching rugby (on TV and live – Leeds Rhinos and Yorkshire Carnegie) and playing sports games on his Xbox. He also plays Boccia and is in the England Performance Group (EPG) for all ages. He needs help training for Boccia (at home and at his local sports facility, which is in walking distance) and with personal care.
