Purpose of the job:
To support a young man who has a diagnosis of spastic quadriplegic Cerebral Palsy, which limits his physical ability. He requires support with all personal care needs and will need support from a Personal Assistant to shower, dress, toileting (colostomy bag), brushing teeth and gastrostomy feeding. The PA will also be required to use an internal tracking hoist system. The young man is able to communicate verbally and will support/guide the Personal Assistant through all tasks.
The young man will also require support with social and leisure tasks. Some hours will be to support him to access social media to stay in contact with friends, listen to music and visit places away from home. He likes to go on day trips into Leeds by bus accompanied by his PA.
The PA will be trained in a number of key areas including Moving & Handling, PEG Feeding & Administering Medication, and Colostomy care. This will be provided prior to the PA commencing work.
The expected start date for this role is March 2021.
Shifts:
The family have recently moved to the LS8 area and wish to find a PA who can provide 12 hours per week to help with personal care. The shifts will be as follows -
- Monday 4:30-8:30pm
- Tuesday 4:30-8:30pm
- Saturday 10-2pm

Main Duties:
The personal assistant will be required to do the following tasks and may be asked to carry out other tasks of a similar nature. I will inform them of which tasks need carrying out on a particular day.
Personal Care -
- To provide all levels of personal care including; showering/bathing, pad changing, toileting, brushing teeth and dressing
- To be responsible for Gastrostomy feeding – training to be provided.
- Support with Moving and Handling through the use of a hoist
Social/Leisure tasks -
- Support the young man to access social media through use of computers and touchpads
- Support the young man to access the music of his choice
- Support the young man to access the community. He particularly likes trips into Leeds City Centre with a PA. Travel may include supporting the young man on bus journeys.
Supervision:
My personal assistant will be directed by and accountable to me in all aspects of their work. They will always ask what is required and not make assumptions about any aspect of the assistance I need or how it should be carried out.
