Job Title: Personal Support Assistant/ Carer- for a young man with complex health needs
 
 
 Hours of work:
 64  hours per month on a rolling rota basis days, nights and weekends various positions available!!!!!!
 
 
 
Salary: £12.00-£14.00- per hour inclusive of weekend support, bank holidays.
 
Job Purpose:
Personal Assistants’ roles come in all shapes and sizes and we are looking for a PA to work with a young man with complex medical needs who live independently at home supported by his amazing family and current care team 
This is an exciting opportunity to support and provide companionship to a young and vibrant man to live independently in his own home and community. 
The PA will be expected to be truly committed to rights and independence for disabled 
people and will need to take a person-centred approach to supporting the client. The aim of the support is to ensure the client lives happily and safely with as much independence as is possible and appropriate within his best interests. You will provide personal care, undertake complex clinical care tasks and provide emotional and social support. 
 
Accountable to: Employer on behalf of the client
 
Overall Purpose of the role:
It is the job of the personal assistant to assist this client in all areas of personal care when required and to promote self independence where possible. You will provide care and support to this young man to make sure his health needs are met. You will be required to support him in day to day activities of his choosing and transport to and from college.  This will be on a rota basis, you must have flexible approach to this and be willing at times to undertake overtime/ annual leave cover when required.
 
By providing proactive support this gentleman will be enabled to lead a fulfilling and independent life at home and in the wider community despite his complex health and wellbeing needs. 
 
The aim of the role is to enable this man to remain at home with his family which is his and his family’s chosen care setting. This wish should be respected at all times
 
Full training will be given to fulfil this role.
 
Duties: 
 
Social and lifestyle duties
 



·  Plan and support client to do chosen activities outdoors 


·  Full support with personal care including bathing, hair washing/brushing, cleaning teeth, cutting nails, choosing appropriate clothing to suit the weather and occasion, dressing and undressing, assistance with diet relating to promoting a healthy lifestyle.


·  Full support with feeding


·  Safe moving and handling


·  Monitor and maintain skin integrity


·  Support with attending appointments/assisting family with client assisting/supporting in/out of bed - hoist in situ)

 You will be required to undergo a full DBS at the cost to the employer
 
 A full contract will be issued when you have successfully completed all training and the required 12 weeks probation period. 
 
 During your induction period to this role you will shadow a established member of staff who will support you throughout.

 You are not required to have any formal qualifications for this role, but you are required to have an eagerness to learn and to keep an open mind throughout. Full training will be provided by regulated nurse/ training providers.
 
 
 Responsibilities:
 
 Maintaining health: constant monitoring and supervision whilst on duty. The competent undertaking of all required clinical tasks as trained, in line with the planned care. I
 
 Dignity, and personal identity: Understand that the preservation of dignity and independence is paramount. 
 
 Shared interest: It is important that support to develop a wider social circle is delivered by someone with shared interests. It is the role of the PA to work with the young man to open new doors that will help him enjoy and lead a fulfilling life, in spite of his health care needs. 
 
 Working as part of a team: respect for other team members, attending required training, team meetings and supervisions.
 
 Confidentiality: respect the privacy of the person you are working with, and the family as a whole.  Many problems can arise from casual conversation about the help and assistance you might give. Try to maintain a professional approach at all times.
 
 Attitude: PA must have a professional attitude whilst on shift and must remember this is a formal agreement.
 
 Independent, safe and responsible Worker: You must understand your role in facilitating the self-defined needs of this client , and must feel confident to ask when unsure. By always listening to instructions and requests you will be supported to interpret them correctly.
 
 Personal support assistants should also respect the relationships with other household members, family and with visitors.
